Pinoy Fries needs Sponsors for its First Contest!

This blog has just reached a hundred posts, and we think it's time to hold a contest. However, to make the contest really big and fun to join, we need sponsors. Sponsorships can be in form of ECs, Paypal cash, ad spots, reviews, links or services you can offer. As a sponsor, you get a lot of link juice from the contest participants, and you also get to help a new blog gain exposure.

To announce your sponsorship, head on to the "sponsors needed" post or email Spife at unplugandplay {at] gmail [dot} com

Pinoy Pride: Gian Karlo Dapul of Pisay '09 Wins ESU International Speaking Tournament

Breaking off from the range of topics covered in this blog, we make an exception in this news, because the person mentioned here is my batchmate.

Compiled from here and here

Philippine Science High School student Gian Karlo Dapul wins in the English Speaking Union International Public Speaking Competition (ESU ISPC) after delivering a speech entitled "Fish Mucus and Foot Fungus", about the impact and the still unfulfilled potential of research in the Philippines today. Dapul made it to the finals after making the short list of four in the semifinals out of nine speakers.

The competition was open to all Filipino students age 16 to 20, enrolled in any high school or college. The participants were asked to prepare a speech based on the theme New Horizons, New Frontiers. After speaking uninterrupted for five minutes, the panel or members of the audience then asked the speaker questions related to the speech.

Two UP Diliman students clinched the next two spots in the podium but unfortunately for them, only Dapul got the chance to compete in London. Winning the ESU Competition catapulted UP Diliman alum Patricia Evangelista to mainstream consciousness a few years back.

Pinoy Pride indeed. Congrats dude!
