Pinoy Idol: Top 12 Boys and Top 12 Girls

I was supposed to blog about GMA 7's Pinoy Idol early in the season, but Wyngard Tracy's aping of Simon Cowell ticked me off. His mean remarks are just too mean, such as "You've got no talent" or "You wasted your time here" and its variants. Come on, the ones who auditioned did nothing wrong to you, man. Give 'em some respect and be constructive. We don't need another Simon, we just need a good judge. While watching the performance of the top 12 boys and girls, I thought "Hey, he must have heard my thoughts or a friend of his told him he was too mean on TV", coz Wyngard now offered constructive comments and mentioned good points about the contestants' performances.

Okay, on with the top 24.

First of all, I absolutely HATE GMA 7's timeslot for Pinoy Idol. I had to torture myself watching shows I don't want to watch just because GMA 7 does not have a set time for the show. Come on, ABC 5 at least had a proper timeslot for their "Philippine Idol" back then. Now it's absolutely messed up. No wonder they announce the timeslots like this: "Friday nights after The Legend, Saturdays after Pinoy Records, Sundays after Kap's Amazing Stories". WTF?!?!?!?! What if we don't know the timeslot, or do not watch TV often?

That's the reason why I missed some performances of the Top 12 boys last Friday.

Watch the performances of the girls here and the boys here.

Anyways, here's what I think of the Male Finalists:

Most of the boys have their own niche, which they stick to perfectly. However, some of the guys (especially the rockers)' versatility are questionable. Some of the performances were forgettable. So here's the more memorable performances that I was able to catch, because I was not able to watch them all.

Ram Chavez - My Hero (Foo Fighters): Was good performance-wise, but he mumbles some of the words.

Walton Zerrudo - She's Out of My Life (Michael Jackson): Wrong choice for him, coz he's more of the R&B type, but he performed it well.

Toffer Rei- Stigmatized (The Calling): It was good compared to the other performances, but I feel he's aping Alex Band too much (and he did mention some people said he sounds like Alex)

Warren Antig - Ulitin (POT): This was probably the best performance I watched that night. He was confident and on pitch. But I also feel that he's aping Karl Roy at some points in the performance.

Okay now the girls. I thought that there were more forgettable and bad performances from the girls than from the boys. I'll just mention the better ones.

Drizzle Muñiz- My Immortal (Evanescence): Good stage presence, almost like a professional. Also, her singing was almost pitch-perfect.

Jeni Rawolle- For Once In My Life (Vonda Shepard): Wow, is she beautiful. She looks like a cross between Julianne and Nicole from the band Crowjane. She has good camera presence, although her performance was a bit uptight and she seemed to be aping Julianne at times.

Okay, so I realized only two performances were good. So I'll list some bad and forgettable ones.

Regene Ong - Fever (Elvis): The corset was ridiculous. The singing was pitchy and the performance was almost boring.

Sue Ellen Cubing- Love Thang (Michelle Williams): She's got that annoying nasal tone, and she has zero stage presence.

Meryl David - You Mean The World To Me (Toni Braxton): She can't reach the high notes! The rest of her peformance's points makes the performance forgettable.

Vren Villaflor - Fame (Irene Cara) - Very cabaret song choice. She has awkward stage presence but the singing was good.

Come on guys. Improve next time! I can't even pick my top 12 because there were more bad performances than good ones.
